daas Gallery... Never in caps. Why?...Why not?

Once upon a time... Well, technically, daas is the transition of what once was the David Acevedo Art Studio in a hidden corner of Fort Myers, FL. The brain child of two people that always wanted to make a difference in the art scene of this area. David Acevedo and Xavier Brignoni started this project in their minds even before they met. For both, it was logical and just a matter of time before they would become the owners of an art gallery like daas. The artist and dreamer and the designer and clever met about 10 years ago and were bonded with a common denominator: ART. From then to here, many things have happened. It's time now. One goal achieved with the David Acevedo Art Studio, now it's the moment for the obvious step.

So it's clear that the name daas comes from the initials of the name David Acevedo Art Studio. It sounds like David has all the credit here. Well, not really. The idea of using the name daas Gallery came from Xavier who masterminds a lot of the activities and projects of the venue. The Phoenix has been adopted as the symbol for the gallery since it represents the rebirth of an entity into something bigger and better. There were many great moments and successes at the David Acevedo Art Studio, but in order to open the way to even better things, it had to be recreated and transformed. Rising from the ashes and against the odds, daas surfaces and is eager to be there, side by side with other established art venues in Downtown Fort Myers and contribute to put this city in the map as yet another artsy destination in Florida.

Expert Advise on Buying Art

Finding the right artwork for your space can be a bit daunting for some, but it does not have to be.

These simple facts will help you make up your mind and enjoy the process of collecting original art:

  • Do NOT buy things other people tell you to love. The art world is vast and very diverse. An art piece should be something you like and feel some sort of connection with.
  • Do NOT over think it! It should feel like love at first sight! You know when you love something right away. It's the same thing with art. It's guaranteed that you will love it forever!
  • Big is not always better! Just because something fits on that big wall over your LCD, does not mean it's necessarily the right artwork for you. Measurements should not necessarily be a determining factor. Buy what you love and create the space for it!
  • Do NOT think it'll be there forever! Big art collectors move and shift their art around. It is perfectly fine to do this! It's actually fun! When you move art pieces around, you are giving your space a whole new perspective and the paintings gain a different viewing power.
  • Start! Collecting art gives you an indescribable satisfaction. Be proud of your collected art pieces, no matter if you have one or many. Remember, you own a piece of someone's views, creativity and essence. Plus, collecting original artwork from established and emerging artists is great investment!

A Historical Location

We are honored to become part of the Historical River District of Downtown Fort Myers. Our gallery occupies a space in one of the oldest buildings of our city. The Colquitt Building, adjacent to the Collier/Post Office Arcade, was built in 1925. It was once a mixed use, open-air structure that remains, to this day, one of the architectural delights of downtown.

Broadway Street was developed in the early 1920's by developers Henry Colquitt, George R. Sims and Lucius Currian "L.C." Curtright.  The street was paved and fully opened in 1925.
